C

Calendering
The processing of the compound into sheeting via the heated roller system of a calender.

Camber
This means the banana effect of sheeting (full width or slit), which can be important in processing on automatic welding machines.

Coldcrack
Coldcrack indicates to which temperatures sheeting can be used. Ask for our Nordas quality for better cold resistance.

Core marks
The last few metres of sheeting on a core, in which the pressure of the roll end of the sheeting causes markings.

D

DEHP
Di-(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate. Chemical name of the plasticizer used by Alkor Draka (also known as DOP).

Dimension stability (shrinkage)
Dimension stability is the change in size of the sheeting after heating. The change in size will take place in the length direction of the sheeting.

DIN
Deutsche Industrie Norm. These norms are generaly used in the European countries.

E

Elephant feet
Deformation caused by settlement of the outside windings of a roll, which is stored and transported on its end, giving it the appearance of an elephant foot.

Embossing roller
Steel roll with grain, for the transfer of grain into the sheeting.

Environment
Total environmental impact of a product. Taking full account of energy, pollution, use of raw materials etc.

H

HF-Welding
HF-welding of PVC is a welding technology, by which high frequency energy is used to melt the sheeting together. It is the most common welding technology used by our customers. Polyolefine, like PP and PE are not weldable with this technology.

I

ISO
International Organisation for Standardisation. Internationally approved organisation, which publishes norms on many fields all over the world.

K

KB
A linear type of plasticizer. This is indicated by the initials "KB" (cold resistant) in the name of the sheeting.

L

Laminating
Bonding two or more sheetings together by heat.

Lay flat
The way in which an unrolled roll lays flat without tension on a smooth table.

M

MFG/PRO
"Manufacturing Progress". Software for data processing of the whole operational process.

Migration
This is the transfer of plasticizer from one sheeting to another, causing a deformation of the surface. It can arise in an end product composed of two types of sheeting with different plasticizer types. It can also arise in end products with two different types of sheeting, in which the amount of plasticizer is very different (e.g. Clear Nivo 10 together with Uni Nivo 50).

N

Nivo hardness shore D
The more plasticizer put in a mixture with PVC, the more flexible the sheeting will be. The "nivo" indication will be higher. The hardness will decrease and the Shore-D value (= hardness measurement) will be lower.

Nordas
An addition of a modifier. This is indicated by the name "Nordas" in the name of the sheeting.

O

Offset litho printing
For this printing technique we deliver a special sheeting (OS-sheeting). This sheeting will always be processed in panels on a OS-printing machine, which consists of four colour printing stations with a lacquer station. Varnish gives a more scratch resistant surface to the sheeting. Inks/varnishes must be UV dried.

P

PP
Polypropylene.

PPM
Stationery market in which Alkor Draka sells sheeting. ("Papeterie et petit maroquinerie").

PVC
Also known as vinyl, our main raw material. By adding plasticizer and/or pigments all varieties of colour and flexibility are possible.

S

Screen printing
This is a printing technique in which, with the aid of a frame of small mesh wirenetting, texts and logo's can be printed on our sheeting.

W

Wavy edges
Uneven lay-flat of the sheeting edge, laying on a smooth tabel.
